Beginning as a student-led campus ministry in 2017, Solid Rock City Church was founded to see the hope and light of God's kingdom established in Ann Arbor like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden.
“You are the light of the world. A city built on top of a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14
We are committed to living out the values of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to be the city on a hill, speak the truth in love, and see lives changed.
We strive to return to the Bible-based roots of what Jesus intended His church to be.
We are a community of believers that desires the Spirit of God to fill us and influence everything we do.
We believe the effective and fervent prayer of God's people has the power to move mountains.
We are a safe place of healing where the broken can be made whole. We also believe in nurturing the whole person.
We believe God's kingdom is composed of individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities. Our differences make us stronger, not weaker.
We embrace joy for the journey. In a world full of negativity, we intentionally choose joy.
Solid Rock City Church is an Apostolic Church, a part of the United Pentecostal Church International. Below is a brief overview of our core doctrines.
The Bible is the infallible Word of God and the authority for salvation and Christian living. (See II Timothy 3:15-17.)
The saving gospel is the good news that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. We obey the gospel (II Thessalonians 1:8; I Peter 4:17) by repentance (death to sin), water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ (burial), and the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial sign of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance (resurrection). (See I Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 2:4, 37-39; Romans 6:3-4.)
There is one God, who has revealed Himself as Father; through His Son, in redemption; and as the Holy Spirit, by emanation. Jesus Christ is God manifested in flesh. He is both God and man. (See Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:4-6; Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:16.)
As Christians, we are to love God and others. We should live a holy life inwardly and outwardly and worship God joyfully. The supernatural gifts of the Spirit, including healing, are for the church today. (See Mark 12:28-31; II Corinthians 7:1; Hebrews 12:14; I Corinthians 12:8-10.)
Everyone has sinned and needs salvation. Salvation comes by grace through faith based on the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. (See Romans 3:23-25; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9.)
Jesus Christ is coming again to catch away His church. In the end will be the final resurrection and the final judgment. The righteous will inherit eternal life, and the unrighteous eternal death. (See I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:11-15.)
Dear Neighbor,
Thank you for sharing our vision for Solid Rock City Church. The dream to launch a church in downtown Ann Arbor aligns with a larger vision to impact the greater Washtenaw County community. Through Solid Rock Church, we have partnered with shelters for the homeless, social services, and other organizations to serve the city.
Leading the youth group at Solid Rock Church of Ann Arbor sparked my wife, Ona, and my fervor. From there, we transitioned to serving as campus pastors, ministering on multiple college campuses in the greater Ann Arbor area. Over time, we began to feel a growing concern for the center of Ann Arbor.
Having grown up in the Ann Arbor area, my wife and I have personally experienced the darkness and oppression that pervades the city. Arguably, this knowledge makes realizing the vision ever more urgent. Fortunately, like many others, we were delivered out of darkness by Christ's marvelous Light.
Through our experiences and ministry, we have both seen firsthand how a relationship with Jesus Christ has the power to change a person's destiny.
And, now, with the help of the Holy Spirit, it is time to change this city's destiny. I hope you will join me in building a city on a hill. One that will drive the darkness from the people who call it home.
Praise the Lord,
Nathaniel and Ona Burmeister
